Don Edson Architect, established an office in La Jolla in 1973 and has been in private practice and involved in the design and overview of one-of-a-kind custom homes ever since. Don Edson Architect is a full service architectural firm specializing in custom residential architecture with emphasis on regional designs for traditional style homes.

In Don's words: "I'm not a signature architect. I've never followed a particular dogma. Even so, a lot of people come to us for a traditional house with comfortable rooms and an open floor plan. We are known for plans that really flow well, rooms that merge into complete living environments. We like it that our homes are correct and that they perform over time because we are into the long term".

Noting that it's possible to be creative without sacrificing practicality, Edson says, "We're attempting to be good architects and not inventors. Clients come to us for good architecture and not for the latest house invention that drives the crazy floor plans."

Don Edson is someone who marches to his own drummer. "I'm traditional to a point - that's where the background is", he says, "but I'm also skilled enough to know how to break the rules". "We are known for plans that really flow well, rooms that merge complex living environments". Current works are far more contemporary that those from years past. Designing with new materials to keep the presentation different helps keep the excitement level high.

The homes have varied from 2,000 to 30,000 square feet. The firm occasionally completes ecclesiastical projects, equestrian orientated projects, as well as major reworks to fine homes in California and other states across North America.

Don moved to San Diego after his service as a U.S. Navy Lieutenant. While in the U.S.Navy, he graduated from Officer Candidate School, Civil Engineer Officer School and served as officer in charge of a 150-man Seabee Mobile Construction Battalion in Vietnam.

Don is a California registered Architect, No. C-7738, since October 9, 1973. He is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati with a B.S. Degree in Architecture.
